HOW WE LEARN and MATH AND LANGUAGE ARTS

My teaching style is encouraging children to be independent learners and higher order thinkers. Your 6th, 7th or 8th grade child will use Flowcharts in Language Arts and/or Math to help him or her complete assignments and master skills at his or her own pace.

Besides using flowcharts, your  child will create a portfolio of work. At parent-teacher conferences, and at the end of the school year, your child will have a collection of graded work in the Portfolio. Your child will use higher order and independent thinking to evaluate and rationalize about what work to add to the portfolio.

Each day in the classroom,  your child is encouraged to use analytical skills to ask and answer reading comprehension and mathematical questions. Please research Bloom’s Taxonomy to learn more about higher order thinking skills.

BIBLE STUDY

As for Bible Study class, we will use the curriculum to make connections to Friday’s Chapel service. Chapel is based on the theme of Sharing Life. Our Bible study discussions will center on this same theme.

ART

Last of all, we have Art each Friday. We will use the Color Theory along with your child’s choice of medium to develop visual artist skills.

HOMEWORK

Your child will have Bible Study homework each Friday. The homework is designed for your child to practice Sharing Life over the weekend. Math and Language Art homework are assigned one day per week. These homework assignments are designed to give your child extra practice on what is covered in class.
